Yeh Sarkar poori tarike se raaj nahin karta!!!

The Bachchan trio - Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Bachchan and Mr.Ram Gopal Varma attempt to recreate the Sarkar magic fails to rule in this outing. This was one of the most awaited movies of the year and the expectations were huge!!!

So Mr. Varma has not made a bad movie but there is nothing exceptional about this movie. It starts off in the same fashion as 'Sarkar' (the usual dark frame Mr.Varma loves to use). Most of the seetis and taalis are reserved for the entry of Amitabh and Abhishek Bachchan. Comparatively, Aishwarya has a quiet start.

Shankar Nagare (Abhishek) starts from where he left in the last episode. Carrying over the prophecy from his father Subhash Nagare aka Sarkar(Amitabh), Shankar makes sure that the development of Maharashtra does not end up in wrong hands. Enters Anita Rajan (Aishwarya), CEO of Sheppard Power Plant, MNC - plans to set up a power plant in the rural areas of Maharashtra at the cost of 40000 homes. Sarkar initially denies the proposal but Shankar later on convinces him explainig him the benefits. With the consent of Rao Saab (Dilip Prabhavalkar), Sarkar's guru and rural villages head, Shankar and Anita start visiting the villages to explain the people the benefits of the power plant in Maharashtra. But both of them face severe opposition from Sanjay Somji (Rajesh Shringarpure), a local leader and Rao Saab's grandson. Meanwhile Sarkar's family is attacked, Shankar's pregnant wife Avantika (Tannisha) dies in a bomb attack, Sarkar gets a heart attack.

The rest of the film answers the following questions -

Will Sarkar recover from heart attack?

Will Shankar cope with the loss of his pregnant wife?

Who is the culprit behind all these events?

Finally what happens to the Nagare family?

Three things excellent about this movie are background score, dialogues and camera work. 'Saam Daam Dand Bhed' and the orginal Sarkar score 'Govinda' haunts the movie totally. The dialogues are excellent throughout excpet for a few instances where there is odd comparison between anda, omelette and masala with Shankar, Mumbai and culprits. One needs to closely have a look at RGV close up shots especially where father son have a talk after the family is attacked. Amazing Camera work!!!!!

Mr.Varma makes the first half really very interesting but the second half drags which is very unusual in his movies. The correlation of scenes are excellent in the movie. Mr.Varma take a bow for the way you shot the climax. I still have faith in you as a director which I had lost temporarily after watching 'Ram Gopal Varma ki Aag'.

Performances - Its all about Bachchan Father and Son. Senior B tells why is he still Sarkar of Indian Cinema. His eyes express so much. Dialogues are mere extra weapons. Junior B is in form this time. In this outing he marks his presence throughout the film. Every emotion is enacted well by him

Aishwarya performs her part well but has very little to do. May be she will get her chance in the trilogy episode (if made) of the film. More than her performance, her looks are flawless and consistent.

Supriya Pathak, Tannisha have very little to say and do in the film. Govind Namdeo is a highly underrated actor. He enacts the role of Hasan Qazi to perfection. Sayaji Shinde is repetitive but effective. Victor Banerjee, Upendra Limaye and Ravi Kale are stricly okay. The man who is there only in 4-5 scenes is Dilip Prabhavalkar but makes a huge impact. Well done Mr. Prabhavalkar!! Another milestone in your career!!! Rajesh Shringarpure is a good actor and he proves it too.

Sarkar Raaj could have been a very good movie only if the second half was an eye-catcher. But unfornately Mr.Varma, yeh sarkar poori tarike se raaj nahin karta!!!!

Rating 2.5/5

The review is good. However, I would disagree with the ratings. While this movie is a derivation of the God Father by Mario Puzo, the way Ramu has adapted to the Indian context is simply amazing. While, the cameraman has done a good job, he has failed in to create the non spoken expression with variety of angles. he has used only 3 angles. The scores are also a version and hence not much room for creativity. I would rate this movie 1/5
