Hancock land crashes!!!! (Movie Review: Hancock)

This is the first English Movie review I am attempting to write because of several reasons. The important ones are:
1. Will Smith

2. Will Smith

3. Will Smith

We all love Will Smith for his acting, sense of humour, his action sequences and his typical accent. So in this movie he doesn't do bad but the movie disappoints to the core. What did Will Smith had in his breakfast before taking the responsibility of the entire movie? (Will Smith is one of the producers of the movie). I doubt whether the director Peter Berg (known more for his recent 2007 flick "The Kingdom" starring Jammie Foxx) had any story in his mind before making this movie. Its somewhat has some kind of resemblance with superhero flicks like"Superman" or "Spiderman" and also picks a plot from "Mr. & Mrs Smith".

John Hancock (Will Smith) is most unusual kind of superhero. Everyone hates him for his great powers and super heroic activities because he does save lives but ends up creating a lot of destruction. Add to that, Hancock is a short-tempered and foul-mouthed person and doesn't like people abusing him. He faces bullets on his body, flies in the air like jet airplane(and manages to avoid them too!!!), fights with the criminals, collides with the train and above all stays unhurt. He collides with the train, saving Ray's (Jason Bateman) life. Ray is a public relations officer, who takes up the mission to transform Hancock's image from a foul-mouthed hated guy to a real and lovable superhero and he succeeds too!!! But there is twist to the plot!!! Hancock starts developing feelings for Ray's wife Mary (Charlize Theron) who hates him to the core (Why? You need to watch the movie for the same!!!)

Director Peter Berg manages to have great special effects bundled with brilliant cinematography by Tobias A. Schliessler who had "Dreamgirls" and many other TV series to his name. The action sequences are mind blasting and it keeps you in the thrilling mode till the end. Editing is neat but the real problem lies with the story and screenplay especially in the second half of the film. The first half is fast but equivalently the second half fails to hold you.

Will Smith does a great job as usual with his charming personality and awesome sense of humour. You need to watch him react when a kid abuses him. In the climax sequences, he is the only one who keeps you hanging. But one thing, his previous roles in recent movies like 'In the pursuit of Happiness' and 'I am Legend' were much much better. Jason Bateman does his job well in the first half but has evry little to do in the second half. Charlize Theron is the surprise element in the film for us as well as for herself and she looks very beautiful.

All in all it could have been a good entertainer like other superhero flicks. The only thing to watch out for is Will Smith!!!!

Rating - 2/5
